Ciara Adams is a charismatic and versatile performer. Her background in opera, theatre, and cabaret, and her undeniable soul for jazz combine to create the delectably original style of this singer/songwriter. "Last of the Bohemians" features performances by a number of prominent Canadian musicians including Davide Direnzo, Mike Janzen, Marc Rogers, Arthur Kerekes (GMMF), Alexis Baro, Tim Abraham, and beats by Alister Johnson.

Don't miss this event with my exceptional band.

e-DENTITY at the Royal Alex

Last year began with excitement as I started the Mirvish production of e-DENTITY early on in the year.

I had been involved with this Theatre Garantua project since it's incarnation in 2004, and we were transferring it to the big stage for a Mirvish production at the Royal Alex Theatre.

After an exhausting rehearsal process, we opened with enthusiasm.

bluemouth inc. was in Toronto in May and June, and How Soon is Now was a huge success, co-produced by the Theatre Centre, with outside eye assistance from Jennifer Tarver and Franco Boni, as well as myself. The collective also launched our inaugural interdisciplinary site-specific workshop.

bluemouth inc. was also pleased to learn that we were awarded the prestigious Fresh Grounds Award from The Harbourfront Centre in Toronto, and we are currently in development with The Dance Marathon for the 2009 World Stage series.

2008 got off to a brilliant start as the company wasted no time with a week long of development workshop in New York at our new hub, the Irondale space in Brooklyn. While in New York the collective also took the time to take a workshop with vocal guru Richard Armstrong.

If you find yourself in New York in February or March check out Lucy Simic, Stephen O'Connell, and Dan Pettrow in Death by Water at Fort Green Park from Feb. 2oth-March 8th with viewings at 7,8, and 9pm. For tickets call 917.687.3415 or email info@bluemouthinc.com. And as always -- dress warmly and wear comfortable shoes! :: www.bluemouthinc.com

The Playboy of the Western World Music Video

In September I was pleased to sing at my cousin Judith's wedding at Castle Leslie in County Monaghan, Ireland. And what and event it was!

I also took the opportunity to film a music video for The Playboy of the Western World, the first single off my new record, shot on location in Donegal and Sligo, Ireland. This original song was inspired by a previous trip to Ireland to visit family in 2002.

VOCABLE

-noun
1. a word; term; name.
2. a word considered only as a combination of certain sounds or letters, without regard to meaning.
-adjective
3. capable of being spoken.
-related forms vo·ca·bly, adverb

In the Summer of 2007, Ciara and Canadian sound poet a.rawlings formed VOCABLE. VOCABLE is a series of workshops focusing on the relationship between sound, text, and movement. Ciara Adams and a.rawlings facilitate VOCABLE by drawing on years of professional experience in voice, performance, and publishing. This series of group and private workshops includes Voice in Performance, Sound on Writing, Sound in Writing, Poetry Performance Scoring, and Plugged/Unplugged: Acoustics and Microphone Technique.

Voice in Performance highlights warm-up and vocal care. Sound on Writing raises bodily and auditory awareness to influence and direct text creation. Sound on Writing explores language as sonic material, with emphasis on sound poetry, rhythm, and pause. Intermediate workshops, Poetry Performance Scoring and Plugged/ Unplugged, prepare individuals to share their work in a public setting.

VOCABLE is looking forward to workshops at both Trent University and Queen's University in the English literature and drama departments respectively in March 2008.

Arts Education

I had a great time working with Theatre Orangeville's Summer Youth Theatre as they prepared for a production of Alice in Wonderland in July. I have also just joined the Royal Conservatory of Music's Learning Through the Arts Artist's roster, and I look forward to bringing my varied skills into many classrooms in the GTA.

Viewpoints and Complicité

Volcano ConservatoryCiara Adams and Michael Greyeyes at Dancemaker's Studio

Immediately after finishing e-DENTITY, I had the chance to study Viewpoints as developed by Anne Bogart and the artists of the SITI company. Michael Greyeyes taught this workshop. Briefly, Viewpoints is a common language and practical methodology for staging new work and engendering flexible and spontaneous ensemble playing. It has already found it's way into every area of my practice as an artist.

Theatre de ComplicitéWhen Theatre de Complicité came to town this Fall with their Two Week Intensive lead by Lilo Baur, I was reminded of many aspects of my training at Guildhall.

Music News

Decadent RareCiara with Decadent Rare at The Carlu (Ciara, Zoe Sharp, Jasmine Jones, and Carlie Howell)

Looking back 2007 allowed me many opportunities to further develop my skills, and one of the most valuable was the week I spent in July at the Humber Songwriting Workshop. Not only did this experience give me a chance to work on my songwriting skills, but it also introduced me to a number of other like minded artists, and industry professionals who offered some great advice. Thanks to the team for organizing such an excellent opportunity for Canadian songwriters.

The Christmas and festive season started early as Decadent Rare played the party scene spreading Holiday cheer. A special thanks to The Carlu, Unisource, and The Royal Canadian Yacht Club for your hospitality!

Other News

LIFTI also further developed my relationship with the Listening Centre in 2007, training as a Lift Instructor, and recording a series of 11 CD's designed for ESL and language students entitled Tricky Sounds to be released this month!

Looking back 2007 was a stellar year, with many opportunities to develop as an artist and educator. I approach 2008 with enthusiasm and excitement. The release of my new record Last of the Bohemians is just the beginning, everyday there are new developments and I plan to make every effort to get out there and play as much as possible!
